The origins of Jack and the
Beanstalk remain something of a mystery although the author is believed to
be English. The earliest printed version of the story is dated 1807 and is
based on the fairytale Jack and the Giant Killer which is often set in the
era of the legendary King Arthur. It was first produced as a pantomime in
1819 at London’s Drury Lane with actress Eliza Povey in the role of Jack.
Vicki has performed in Jack
and the Beanstalk on numerous occasions. The 1997 QDOS Production at the
Churchill Theatre, Bromley found her reunited with with several cast
members from the previous year’s production of Mother Goose in Birmingham,
firmly established in their new roles. As ever, Vicki in the role of Fairy
Petal proved to be far to great an adversary for the superb portrayal of
the wicked Fleshcreep by Robert Duncan, while Matthew Kelly once again
showed himself to be the quintessential dame as Dame Trot. Toyah Willcox’s
portrayal of Jack fair bounded with energy and enthusiasm with Chris
Jarvis’s delightfully potty performance as Silly Billy proving the perfect
match. Ward Allen with Roger, his super dog and Michelle Potter as the
Princess, completed the cast wwith a guest appearance by Postman Pat.

Following the success of the
1997 production, Vicki again reprised her role of Good Fairy in 1998 at
the Richmond Theatre. He was joined by Toyah Willcox as Jack with Robert
Duncan transforming in true panto style from Fleshcreep to Dame Trot.
Simon Rouse assumed the mantle of Fleshcreep with Mark Curry as Silly
Billy. Completing the cast were Carrie Sutton, Oliver Beamish, The Babette
Langford Young Set and guest appearances by Zippy, George and Bungle.

Grand was treated to a star studded cast in the 1993 production of Jack
and the Beanstalk. With major television exposure of so many familiar
faces, this highly successful show was destined to sell out from the
start. Leading the cast were the ever popular Chuckle Brothers as the
Giant Killers, ideal casting for any panto with their non-stop, skilful
exuberance and good clan family fun. They were joined by the equally
popular Patrick Mower of Emmerdale as the dastardly Blackspider and of
course Vicki as on this occasion, Fairy Cougette. Add to the mix dazzling
costumes, brilliant technology and expert directing and the show’s winning
formula is complete. Also starring Zoe Nicholas, Don Falzon, Carl Brent
and Owen Money. |
