It was a bubbly and exuberant Vicki
Michelle who took to the stage at The
Heritage Foundation Summer Ball last night
to help conduct proceedings as she has
done increasingly more often in recent
months. Having previously twisted and
jived the night away to the music of 60’s
icons The Searchers, it was her role to
announce the raffle prizes and winners of
the dozen or so generous donations given
to the cause, aided by the lovely Lady
Rosie Roberts Davidson. Hosted by The
Foundation’s Vice President Mike Read, the
evening began with a Bucks Fizz reception
and delicious three course dinner. In
addition to the dancing, guests were also
entertained by a brilliantly dynamic
performance from the incredibly talented
classical violinist Ching and relive the
music of Graceland from top showman Lou
Jordan as Elvis. Additional musical
contributions were provided by Dave Berry,
Elena Canclini, Nicola Sipprell and Ellie
Dibben. The event attracted guest from as
far flung places as the USA, Norway and
Sweden as well as numerous celebrities
including:- Paul Shane, Jeffrey Holland,
Judy Buxton, Jean Fergusson, Lynda Baron,
Anita Graham and Mark Perry all in the
name of raising money for The Bomber

 |
|
a |
|
Vicki was at Basildon Theatre last night
to raise a glass to Josh and wish him well
as he prepares for this year’s Eurovision
Song Contest. Josh was chosen to represent
the UK in Oslo having received a huge
majority vote from the British public and
Vicki will be glued to the television set
as he performs on May 29th as
she has more than a little vested interest
in his appearance. A friend of the family,
she played a major role in getting Josh on
the Eurovision trail having suggested he
try his luck in the competition. Many
local dignitaries were also present along
with representatives of various radio
stations as well as the BBC who
interviewed the young hopeful. The evening
would not have been complete without a
performance of this year’s British entry
That Sounds Good To Me and of course, the
19 year old singer obliged along with
another of his songs. |

guests packed into the marquee for a
buffet lunch and to hear several of Sir
John’s friends and colleagues reminisce on
his life and contribution to the British

Dirty Oil |
|
a |
|
“Frightening and
disturbing” are the words that sprang to
mind for Vicki in connection with the
subject explored by the film Dirty Oil, a
documentary highlighting the issues
surrounding the battles between
government, industry, local communities
and environmentalists over the development
of the oil sands of Alberta, Canada. The
film caused much controversy when it was
first screened in Canada last year which
comes as no surprise to the actress who
attended the UK premiere at Barbican
Centre on the 1st of March.
“It’s a real worry to me that people’s
health and the environment are being
jeopardised for the sake of monetary
gain,” she explained. “It’s an even bigger
concern for my daughter Louise who has
been brought up to respect such things.
She particularly wanted to accompany this
evening.” The film was simultaneously
beamed across the country by satellite.
Among the VIPs also attending the showing
were the film’s director Leslie Iwerks and
narrator, Canadian actress Neve Campbell. |

Iconic singer song writer
Neil Sedaka is the latest superstar to
have his life story immortalised in a
production which had its UK premiere at
The Churchill Theatre, Bromley on the 4th
March and Vicki was among the celebrity
guests invited to attend. Despite
relishing every moment of the show, in
which she described Wayne Smith in the
title role as “Simply fantastic”, the
undoubted highlight of the evening for
Vicki came at the post show party where
she was introduced to the musical legend
himself. “He was so charming and
complimentary”, she said afterwards. “I’ll
never forget his words to me.” The show
catalogues 40 of Sedaka’s hits while
charting his rise to fame and fortune, to
the temporary collapse of his career and
subsequent rise back to riches, in a
remarkable story of triumph over
adversity. Also present on the opening
night were Su Pollard, Brian Murphy and
Linda Regan. |

everyone had a great time. I haven’t
danced so much for ages,” she laughed. |

boy to present him with not only the laptop
computer he had dreamed of owning but also a
desk, chair, printer and games at a party thrown

Vicki was back at
Haven House Hospice on 5th April in support
of the Buddie Scheme. The scheme was set up several
months ago in order to provide help and support for

part of how the hospice helps the entire families of
the children diagnosed with serious long term and
potentially life threatening illnesses. When a child
is diagnosed, it is often easy to overlook to a point
how it might affect brothers, sisters and other
members of the family. This scheme addresses all those
issues.’ |

Vicki made
a surprise guest appearance on Chris Evans
Radio 2
show on Monday the 16th October. The surprise
came while Vicki was in rehearsal for Matthew
Townshend’s production of Salad Days at The Greenwich
Theatre. She was originally expecting a slot with Chris
a week later but a last minute cancellation resulted in
Radio 2 contacting her at short notice to fill the gap.
“There were a couple of frantic phone calls via the PR
Company handling Salad Days and my PA as it was
difficult to get hold of me.” Explains Vicki. “I was in
the middle of a technical rehearsal and none of our
mobiles had a signal so one of the box office staff had
to come and find me with minutes to spare. I wasn’t
really expecting to do a live interview when the call
came and only had a few minutes to collect my thoughts
and be initiated as to what was happening. It was quite
nerve racking for a moment but Chris was absolutely
fantastic especially with the quiz as it’s quite
difficult to keep up with currant affairs when you are
totally immersed in rehearsing. Anyway it all turned out
to b e quite a little adventure in the end.” |

The Lady Taverners - Sailing Project |
|
a |
|
Vicki was on hand at the Ridgeway
Sailing club last week on behalf of the Lay Taverners in support of
the RORO Sailing Project. The Lady Tav is a new innovative Martin 16
dingy specially designed to accommodate the need of disabled sailors
of all abilities including
wheelchair bound and was originally |
|
 |
launched in October 2004 courtesy of
funding by the Lady Taverners. Affectionately
known as the Lady T, the dinghy’s main purpose
was to provide taster sailing lessons to
encourage young disabled people to take up the
sport, leading to racing |
|
but the project has proved so
successful that all age groups have become
involved. The boat which is completely
unsinkable even when totally flooded and fitted
to accommodate wheelchairs, is also entered into
all the Martin 16 Regattas and is usually crewed
by one able-bodied and one disabled crew member
although on many occasions she has an all
disable d crew. With the Olympics coming to
London in 2012, it is essential to bring on in
particular the younger generation of sailors to
continue the great British successes stories of
recent years and Lady T will play a major part
in the preparation |

at the needs of the brothers and sisters of terminally ill children.
The event took place at Chigwell Health Club and following the cutting
of a cake; the children were invited to take part in a variety of
activities, such as tennis, swimming, jewellery making and beauty
treatments. The plan is to make the club visits a monthly event and to
expand the scheme to encompass a broader age range. |

Recycling Plant Opens |
|
a |
|
Following her recent
performances as Maxine in the hit comedy play Stepping Out at
Lincoln’s Theatre Royal, Vicki returned to the region on 19th
October to open the new, state of the art recycling centre in
Gainsborough. Vicki was on top form as she called for the local
community to make full use of the facility. “Recycling needs to be a
way of life to us all and I am pleased to lend my support to the
recycling campaign in Lincolnshire and throughout the country,” she
said. “I am really impressed by the facilities that the site provides;
it’s a million miles from the image of the traditional tip and the rag
and bone man. The range of materials which can be separated for
recycling is remarkable.” |

the Cambridge Theatre for the opening of Flying Music’s Dancing In The

of classic music from the heart of Detroit including I Heard It On The
Grapevine, Dancing In The Streets, Stop In The Name OF Love and Tears
Of A Clown performed by an exciting and energetic young company. Also
among the invited guest celebrities were Melanie Stace, Jess Conrad,

Romford Greyhound Owners Association |
|
a |
|
Sleek,
streamlined and breathtakingly fast, greyhounds provide a great deal
of excitement during their racing careers but what happens to them when they retire? In some cases the animals
|
|
 |
need to be
re-homed and that is where Romford Greyhound
Owners Association comes in. On Sat 25th
June, Vicki was invited to attend a special meeting at Romford Stadium
where she was asked to hand over the retiring Go Lannahn Go to his |
|
new owners on
behalf of the charity. Originally founded some
35 years ago, this was the 1000th greyhound RGOA has found a new home for
since moving to its present kennels in 1999. “It was quite a night,”
says Vicki “The charity do a wonderful job raising money and awareness
as well as finding happy homes for the dogs.” During the evening Vicki
also presented a number of trophies for sponsored races. “There was a
lot of walking involved,” she laughs. “There were quite a few races.”
Chairman of the RGOA Doug Hayes said, “It was a terrific night and Vicki was
superb, chatting to everyone and really entering into the spirit of
the occasion.” The evening also helped to raise further funds for the
charity. |

Comic Heritage |
|

|
Over
the years, Vicki has enjoyed a long association with Comic Heritage,
which is part of the Heritage Foundation. The Foundation’s
aim is to combine paying tribute
to Britain’s |
|
 |
wealth of talent while raising money for worthy
causes through their charity, the Arts and
Entertainment Charitable Trust. The fund raising
events include staging concerts, tribute
evenings, luncheons and
|
|
erecting permanent memorials in the form of Blue
Plaques. The pinnacle of the Trust’s year is in
June at the Heritages highly prestigious Annual
Awards Luncheon when today’s performers are
honoured at a star studded gala ceremony, an
event that Vicki attends on a regular basis.
Most recently, Vicki attended a lunch at The
Grosvenor House Hotel in honour of friend and
colleague John Inman. During the event there was
also an auction and sale of memorabilia with
profits being donated to Childline. |

The Lady Taverners |
|
a |
|
In recent years Vicki
has become an active member of the Lady
Taverners, a fundraising branch of Lords
Taverners, crickets official charity. Lady
Taverners owes its formation to Baroness
Thatcher who posed a problem
to the all male club when she |
|
 |
became Britain’s first woman
Prime Minister. It was tradition for every Prime
Minister to be made an honorary member of Lords
Taverners but obviously this was not possible
and so Lady Taverners
was formed with
the Baroness |
|
awarded honorary title Lady
Taverner no. 1. A number of female cricketing
legends such as Rachel Heyhoe Flint and a host
of celebrity and corporate members quickly
joined her. The charity organises regular events
nationwide ranging from gala balls, dinners,
lunches, quiz nights and wine auctions to
celebrity golf days and fun runs. In September
2003, Vicki joined one such event in aid of
breast cancer. The London Flora Light Challenge
took place in Hyde Park consisting of a 5km run.
‘It was a wonderful day and the weather
was perfect,’ says Vicki. ‘We all completed the
run although in my case it was more of a gentle
jog really.’ Vicki was joined by an array of
familiar faces from the world of television and
theatre including pictured actress, comedienne
and singer Faith Brown, news presenter Angela
Rippon, former women’s England cricket captain
Rachel Heyhoe Flint and well known actresses
Lynne Miller, Liz Fraser and Sheila Steafel |

Launched in 2008, Funkymojoe is Woodford’s
most talked about champagne and cocktail
bar and was the venue for a Comedy Night
given in aid of Haven House Hospice on
Thursday 20th May as part of
Children’s Hospice Week. As ever, Vicki
was present on behalf of the charity.
Guests enjoyed an evening of quick fire
comedy from compere Ray Crawford together
with Damian Kingsley and headliner Terry
Alderton. Music was provided by the
brilliant Bell and Spurling with of
course, a magic mix of exotic cocktails or
glass of bubbly to make the evening go
with an added swing. “It was a really
great night out”, said Vicki. “Everyone
gave their time for free to help the
Hospice raise much needed funds and I
haven’t laughed so much for ages”. |

Haven House - Fashion Show |

|
a |
|
There was more of a family feel than usual
at the latest Haven House fundraiser when
Patron Vicki was joined by daughter Louise
for a Fashion Show staged by The Wardrobe
Mistresses at RS Lounge in Woodford, Essex
on June 18th. Not only did
Vicki host the event but Louise was on
hand to model some of the fashions on the
catwalk. Opening the evening, Vicki
addressed the audience with a speech
highlighting the importance of the work of
the hospice, not only for those with life
threatening illnesses but also their
carers and siblings. After thanking
everyone for supporting the show, she
handed over to the models for the main
event in which guests were shown the
latest collection from The Wardrobe
Mistresses Epping based company. The
fashions ranged from casual everyday
clothing to a more sophisticated evening
look with Louise modelling three
contrasting outfits. The first, a
strapless, maxi day dress in pale olive
was followed by a black sequined top,
teamed with black mini skirt also suitable
to wear with jeans or leggings. The final
creation was a short day to evening dress
by John Zack, also in pale olive. Many of
the fashions were available to buy on the
night. |

Street Dance |
|
a |
|
Vicki and husband Graham Fowler were among
the VIP guests invited to the Red Carpet
Premiere of the film Street Dance 3D
screened at Milton Keynes Xscape on Monday
17th May. The event was hosted
in connection with the charity Save the
Children and begun with a fizzing
performance of talented street dancers in
the foyer of the complex, accompanied by
an equally bubbly glass of champagne. “The
film was fantastic,” said Vicki. “It had a
really great feel good feeling from start
to finish and the dancing was amazing.”
Street Dance 3D is the latest low budget,
British, blockbuster to hit the big screen
but looks ‘a million dollars’ and is
already giving some of it’s high profile
competitors a run for their money at the
box office. Featuring George Sampson,
Diversity and Flawless alongside the
acting talent of Charlotte Rampling and
Eleonor Bron, the film displays universal
appeal. The Premiere was followed by an
after screening party attended by
celebrity guests including Antony Costa,
Ciara Janson and Emily Atack. |

|
For the second time in quick succession
recently, Vicki found herself as a guest
speaker at a Heritage Foundation Luncheon,
this time in honour of the legendary
comedy script writers David Croft OBE and
Jimmy Perry OBE. The award winning pairing
are famed for their work together on such
series as Dad’s Army, Hi De Hi, It Ain’t
Half Hot Mum and You Rang M’Lord with
Croft teaming up with Jeremy Lloyd for Are
You Being Served and the series in which
Vicki gained worldwide recognition, Allo
Allo. The actress received enthusiastic
applause for her tribute in which she
heralded the dynamic duo as being largely
responsible for creating the Golden Age of
Comedy as well as recounting her memories
of working on three of their iconic
series. In conclusion she offered a
special vote of thanks to David Croft for
providing her with what she considers to
be her ‘pension fund’ in the form of Allo
Allo. Many performers from the Croft and
Perry programmes were present including Su
Pollard, Paul Shane, Ruth Madoc, Frank
Williams, Michael Knowles, Pamela Cundell,
John D Collins, Barry Howard, Nikki Kelly,
Linda Regan and Bill Pertwee several of
whom also offered their own tributes.
Following the lunch, guests were able to

Hi De Hi Tour |
|
a |
|
The latest revival in a
surge of staged television shows took to
the road this week opening at Stevenage’s
Gordon Craig Theatre at the start of a
major national tour. Hi De Hi enjoyed sell
out success both in London’s West End and
on tour in the 1980’s when it was first
produced with the original TV cast. Now
only Barry Howard remains in his role as
champion ballroom dancer Barry Stuart-Hargreaves
with Nikki Kelly stepping into the dance
shoes left by Diane Holland as Yvonne his
partner. Incredibly but perhaps not
surprisingly, this was the first time
Vicki had seen any version of the show
that ran parallel to Allo Allo during
sitcom’s Golden Age. Entering into the
spirit of things, she joined in
enthusiastically with the audience
participation pieces before catching up
with the cast and Friends at the after
show party. As ever the Friends were
delighted to have Vicki back in their
midst with plans firmly set in place for
more involvement in the future. |

Vicki and actress
daughter Louise Michelle joined the star
studded guest list on 11th March
for the party launch of Jane Huxley’s
new West End bound play, When the Lilacs
Bloom, My Love. |
|
The production which
opens at the
Leicester Square Theatre on the 14th
April, stars Judy Cornwell and Sally
Farmiloe-Neville and is directed by Simon
Beyer. The story centres on Nicky, a child
of modern-day suburbia who returns to the
family fold in order to inform her mother,
stepfather and their lodger of the
impending birth of her baby. With the
reluctant father in tow, what transpires
presents unexpected outcomes all round.
The party was held in the opulent
surroundings of Fleming’s Mayfair Hotel
and attracted many well known faces
including Duncan Bannatyne, Fennella
Fielding and Susannah York.

Jeffrey Holland Tribute Lunch |
|
a |
|
 |
|
Vicki was one of three
guest speakers taking part in a tribute
lunch given in honour of Jeffrey Holland
at The Marriott Hotel, Regents Park,
London on the 7th March. The
event which was organized by The Heritage
Foundation, attracted many guests from the
world of show business as well as
Jeffrey’s friends, family and fans. Vicki,
who has worked with the popular comedy
actor on numerous occasions, spoke fondly
of her memories of the productions they
have shared while paying tribute to his
professionalism and career. Writer Jimmy
Perry OBE and production manager Charles
Garland also provided tribute speeches.
|
|
 |
|
In addition, the day included roof raising
entertainment from Bobby Crush who
received a standing ovation for his
impromptu medley of audience requests as
did Su Pollard for her musical and comedy
contributions. Eleven year old Ellie
Dibben charmed with a traditional folk
song while Matt Grindley amazed with his
magical illusions and guests really got
into the spirit with Lou Jordan leading
the cast of Hi De Hi in a version of the
show’s theme song Holiday Rock. Said
Vicki, “I was delighted Jeff asked me to
speak for him, it gave me the chance to
say thank you for some great memories. It
was also fantastic to be able to catch up
with so many old friends and colleagues
from the Croft, Lloyd and Perry era. I
think I can safely say we all enjoyed the
day immensely. Among those guests present
were; David Croft OBE, Paul Shane, Barry
Howard, Nikki Kelly, Donald Hewlett,
Michael Knowles, Susie Brann, Yvonne
Marsh, Perry Benson, Carolyn Lyster and
William Gaunt. |

The Shouting Men |
|
a |
|
Vicki joined the cast and
fellow celebrities on the Red Carpet
outside The Odeon Cinema, Leicester Square
this week when she attended the film
premiere of The shouting Men on March 2nd.
The screenplay revolves around a group of
Gillingham FC supporters and their quest
to travel to the north of England to
witness their beloved team play an FA Cup
tie against the mighty Newcastle Untied.
As they are about to depart, they receive
a visit from a man in a wheelchair with no
legs who promises them free use of a
minibus complete with free fuel. The only
proviso is they take him with them! For
Vicki it was an enjoyable diversion from
her more frequent theatre trips. “I knew
very little about the film beforehand,”
she explained. “I went with an open mind
and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was full of
laughs but with a great deal of poignancy
as well. It’s amazing the standards that
can be reached on such modest budgets.”
Vicki was accompanied for the evening by
husband Graham Fowler, himself a director
of photography. |

Epping Citizens Award |
|

Vicki was among the
guests of honour when she attended the
recent annual Epping Citizen Award
Ceremony and Dinner staged by Epping
District Council at Gilwell Park on the 19th
March 2010. Hosted by Epping Town Mayor,
Cllr Janet Hedges, the event paid tribute
to all those who have made outstanding
contributions to their community in
addition to presenting awards to special
people chosen by public nomination. This
particular evening took on a greater
significance for Vicki when she was
approached to become a patron of a new
local charity set up to dispel the
derogatory Essex girl image that has
become the fashion of late, by helping to
promote a more positive side of the female
fraternity of the county. |

It was back to the Gordon
Craig Theatre for a second visit in as
many weeks on Tuesday to see the play It’s
Never Too Late starring Vicki’s good
friends Jeffrey Holland and Judy Buxton.
“It was a fabulous script brilliantly
acted,” said Vicki. “The after show party
was as always great fun but more
importantly, it gave me another chance to
talk to Friends and catch up with club
news. I’m very keen to establish what the
members want from their club in order that
we can take the theatre from strength to
strength.” |

Presidents Dinner with England football
manager Fabio Capello. With the England
Team preparing to fly to South Africa for
the World Cup Finals this was
thought to be |
|
Fabio’s
only private appearance before the
competition. Following a champagne
reception and three course meal, guests
were able to share some insight of the
pride and passion of the beautiful game as
related in a Q and A session conducted by
Fabio and a panel of high profile experts
from the world of football including
former England managers Sven Goran
Eriksson, Graham Taylor OBE and Terry Venables. Also present were Chelsea
manager Carlo Angelotti and Howard
Wilkinson. Profits from the event were

saw the opening performance of Inside Job,
the first |

in a series of plays produced by Ian
Dickens Productions and which gave Vicki
the perfect opportunity to catch up with
familiar faces
and events at the club.
“I had a wonderful evening,” said Vicki.
“I suppose I am a little biased but there
is something quite special about the
welcome at Stevenage. I am really looking
forward to having more involvement with
everyone there in the coming weeks. I
thoroughly enjoyed the play, it was a real
cliff-hanger and very well acted.” Vicki
was accompanied by husband Graham Fowler
and joined by friends and colleagues
together with Giles Watling who directed the play. |

Lady Taverners - Are You Being Served Sale |
|
a |
|
 |
|
Vicki joined the staff of
Grace Brothers Department Store on Tuesday 19th
January when she helped celebrate a special Are
You Being Served charity sale of over 200 items
from the late Wendy Richard’s wardrobe.
Organized by Wendy’s widower John Burns, the
event took place in Selfridges third floor
exhibition hall which was converted into the set
of the famous sitcom for the purpose and opened
to the public in order to raise money for The
Lady Taverners, Wendy’s favourite charity. Vicki
donned the familiar Grace Brothers staff uniform
alongside fellow actors Laila Morse, June Brown
Natalie Cassidy, Ricky Groves, Lorraine Chase
and many more, all depicting various characters
from the programme as they re created the mood
from the show that made Wendy a household name.
Nicholas Smith reprised his original character
of Mr Rumbold to oversee proceedings. The event
raised almost £8000 and will be used to give
disabled and disadvantaged youngsters a sporting
chance. |
|
 |
“It really was quite
something”, said Vicki who is President of
the Essex Branch of Lady Taverners. “I’m sure Wendy would have
loved it and it’s wonderful to think that the
money is going to such a worthy cause”. |

Hull Truck Theatre Company - Up and Under |

|
|
Taking time out between
performances of The Best Little Whorehouse
in Texas at Hull’s New Theatre,
Vicki attended the press night of Hull
Truck Theatre’s 25th
anniversary production of Up ‘n’ Under.
Written and directed by the company’s
Artistic Director John Godber, the plot
follows the fortunes of the lowly amateur
rugby league pub team of The Wheatsheaf
Arms as they go into battle against arch
rivals The Cobbler’s Arms. |
|
 |
High stakes mean there is more riding on
the result than mere pride but can the
ramshackle bunch of players succeed
against the odds? Starring in the play
were Abi Titnuss, William Ilkley, Lewis
Linford, James Crossley, Eamonn Fleming
and Rob Angell. Said Vicki, ‘It was one of
the most polished productions I have ever
seen, full of laughs and a great Northern
feel to it. Hull Truck are what theatre is
all about. They put on great shows,
provide fan- |
|
tastic workshops, projects, training and
opportunities for young people and
corporate events and really get everyone
involved. I look forward to visiting again
next time I am in Hull”. Vicki was
accompanied by her daughter Louise
Michelle and local radio presenters
Jonathan Parker and Marcus Heald. |

Vicki was one
of a number of artists taking part recently in a special
tribute show dedicated to the legendary comic genius Dick
Emery broadcast on Radio 2 this September. Vicki appeared
with the star on numerous occasions during her early career
and reminisced over some of her favourite memories in the
interview. The documentary which was fronted by David

recording her contribution while on tour in the stage play
of Allo Allo last March. The programme also included
interviews with Michael Grade, Harold Snoad, Robert
Gillespie and Helen Fraser in addition to Emery’s daughter
and incorporated an insight into the actor’s colourful
private life using archive footage of his own interviews and

Vicki was at
the prestigious Ivy Club in London this week where she
grabbed a gabble to lead a charity auction in aid of The
Children’s Society. No stranger to auctioneering, Vicki has
often assumed the mantle of auctioneer in the name of
charity and even took over proceedings in her own Cash in
the Celebrity Attic TV programme early this year. “I never
know exactly what I am going to say,” she laughs, “but I do
seem to have the knack for charming extra cash out of the
bidders. It was great fun and for such a worthy cause.” |

How do actors relax after
a long day in rehearsal? Well for Vicki, who was back at the
Gordon Craig Theatre on Saturday to rehearse for her
forthcoming performances as Mona Stangley in The Best Little
Whorehouse in Texas being staged in Hull next month, the
perfect way to unwind was to share a quiet dinner with
friends followed by an evening watching a performance of
Pool’s Paradise in the theatre itself. “There is such a
lovely atmosphere at the Craig,” she explains. “The staff
are so welcoming and I always enjoy visiting whenever I can
whether it’s in my official capacity as Friends Patron or
just as a member of the audience. When I found out two of my
friends were performing there, it was the obvious thing to
do. The play was very funny and brilliantly cast. It was
great to meet up with old friends again.” |

Catwalk
Confidential |
|
a |

Vicki’s passion for the
theatre took her into London’s West End this week for a
performance of Robyn Peterson’s Catwalk Confidential. The
account of a precocious 16 year old’s rise to fame in the
world of the high Paris fashion houses, is part memoir, part
cautionary tale brilliantly portrayed by the author in this
one woman show. Said Vicki “It was an amazing performance
which I really enjoyed.” |

Vicki in the company’s tour of Allo Allo earlier in the
year. They were; Claire Andreadis as Ingrid, Richard Tate as

talent competition for the energetic and budding performers,
as well as a host of stalls, valuations of antiques by local
auctioneers Boddingtons, Indian Head massage, food from top

Nessie |
|
a |
|
No trip to the Scottish Highlands for work or
pleasure can be complete without a visit to
Loch Ness, much reported home of Nessie the
Loch Ness Monster. So it will come as no
surprise that Vicki and the cast of the 25th
anniversary stage tour of Allo Allo took time
out of performing for a boat trip on the loch.
The whole cast had been hoping for a sighting
of the legendary Nessie as they boarded the
Jacobite Queen but none were actually
expecting the surprise that was in store for
them, in fact Vicki was quite taken aback with
what she saw. |
|
 |
|
“I went
down to the boat’s cabin and caught an arched shape on the
sonar monitor followed by two more”, she explains. “If it
was Nessie, all the positive energy we had been generating
probably brought her out or perhaps she’s just a fan of
the show”, she laughs. “In all seriousness, whether it was
Nessie or not, we all definitely saw something on that
monitor”. Vicki’s co star Jeffrey Holland added “We’re all
very intrigued by the sonar image and keenly await the
results of the analysis”. In fifteen years of working on
the loch, Captain of the Jacobite Queen John Agnew claimed
never to have seen anything like it before while Loch Ness
Project sonar expert Adrian Shine was baffled stating “It
certainly adds to the mystery. No doubt there is an
explanation; I just have no idea what it is”. The readings
are currently under further investigation and scientific
analysis. |

St.

Vicki helped
to raise money for a local Darlington hospice this week
when she joined over 300 women in the town’s South Park
for this year’s Midnight walk in aid of St Teresa’s
Hospice. Braving the cold night air, Vicki led co stars
Nell Jerram and Claire Andreadis in starting the 1½ mile
walk around the park which was preceded by a warm up
conducted by Colonel Millen, commander at Catterick
Garrison. Also present were 20 personnel and a physical
training instructor. It is hoped that the event will raise
in excess of last year’s total of £25,000 in support of
the hospice’s work. Vicki said “it’s wonderful to see so
many people out to support the hospice, places like St
Teresa’s provide an amazing service.” |

Loose
Women |

Vicki was
temporarily whisked away from her current theatre tour of
Allo Allo today, to make a guest appearance on the hugely
popular lunchtime TV magazine programme Loose Women. She
joined presenters, Andrea McLean, Sheree Hewson, Lesley
Garrett, and Carol McGiffin to discuss the reasons for her
decision to return to the role that originally brought her
to the public eye over 25 years ago. Also up for
discussion were Vicki’s thoughts on the fashion scene for
women of a certain age and the future career of her
daughter Louise just embarking on the acting scene. “Loose
Women is a great show to be on,” said Vicki. “They were
all so kind to me and I love their honesty. They’re not
afraid to be controversial and I admire that.” |

Buxton between performances of Allo Allo where she relived
some of her memories of working with the comedian. Other
areas for discussion included her views on Emery’s
character creations, catchphrases and the legacy he has
behind. The programme is scheduled to be aired in October. |

The sun is blazing from a

Vicki was in
Chingford on 21st May to support a local group of
youngsters from Chingford Day Centre with their updated
version of a production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The
play was developed by the actors themselves and although
they followed the traditional Shakespearean storyline, they
played to their strengths in modernizing the production. For
example Queen Hippolytus bore a remarkable resemblance to
rock star Tina Turner. ‘It was a marvellous show,’ said
Vicki. ‘They were all so talented not just with their acting
but they played there own live music as well.’ In addition
to the Tina Turner song other music included hits by John
Lennon and Queen. Following the performance, Vicki presented
an outstanding achievement award to one of the young actors. |

Opening of
Themed Bistro in Norway |
|
a |
|
2007 has seen a
massive revival in events surrounding the hit BBC comedy
series Allo Allo not least since the recent screening of the
one off special on BBC2 entitled the Return of Allo Allo in
April. The weekend beginning the 4th May was
particularly hectic for Vicki who embarked on the weekend by
flying to Norway with Arthur Bostrom to open a themed bistro
in the hotel Rica Maritin in Haugesund. With the owner of
the hotel being a huge Allo Allo fan, the idea of a Café
Rene within his complex seemed an obvious choice and who
better to open it than Yvette and Crabtree themselves. |
|
 |
|
It was quite a
journey for Vicki and Arthur which incorporated plane
flights, a fjord ferry crossing and a long taxi drive
through the night in order to meet tight time schedules but
on arrival, no effort was spared to make the duo welcome. In
addition to opening the bistro in full character, Vicki and
Arthur became involved with numerous other activities
arranged by the organizers to mark the event, which also
seemed to include most of the town and a great deal of
champagne. ‘We had the most fabulous time,’ says Vicki. ‘It
was all a bit frantic but I know I speak for Arthur as well
when I say it was one of the best events we have ever been
involved with so thank you Terjre and everyone else who
helped to give us such a good time. If you ever decide to
open another Café Rene, you know where we are!’ |

Love,
Light & Laughter Show - Mark Brandist |
|
a |
|
Vicki is no
stranger to hosting charity events such as fashion shows and
concerts up and down the country, but the Love, Light and
Laughter Show in London on the 5th of October,
was a particularly special event as it was organised by
Vicki’s entire family in memory of Vicki’s young nephew
Joshua. Joshua tragically died of a rare brain disorder on
Mother’s Day last year. Top of the bill was celebrity medium
Mark Brandist. Throughout the evening, he helped to reunite
guests with their loved ones bringing laughter and
reassurance along the way in his own inimitable style.
Messages were interspersed with musical interludes provided
by the beautiful voice of Maria Miele. “Joshua was a
remarkable little boy,” explains Vicki. |
|
 |
“He brought
inspiration to so many. We are all very spiritual people
and feel that Josh benefited greatly from working with
healers during his illness. We wanted to do something he
would have approved of and we think the mix of
spiritualism and entertainment would have appealed to
him.” The event proved hugely successful and raised
several thousand pounds which was divided between Joshua’s
favourite charities. |

Caught In The Net |
|
a |
|
Monday 24th
October saw Vicki make a welcome return to the Gordon Craig Theatre,
Stevenage in her capacity as Theatre Club Patron, for the First Night
and after show party of Ian Dickens production of the farce, Caught In
The Net. “It was the first opportunity I’ve had to visit the club this
year since my |
|
 |
performances at the
theatre in Salad Days and I was determined to be there,”
explains Vicki. “It was great to be part of the audience for
a change. Although I was delighted that Salad Days was to
open at the Gordon Craig and I would be among |
|
friends, it was also
quite nerve racking for the same reason so this was a
real chance to relax and be entertained as well as catch
up on events and goings on with club members. I was particularly pleased to see so many
familiar faces and greatly encouraged by the number of people attending.
The performance was hilarious and it was good to see so many friends
and colleagues not just in the cast but also the audience.”
The play starred Jeffery Holland, Trevor Bannister, Julie Buckfield,
Judy Buxton, Carolyn Lister and Terry O’Sullivan. David Callister and
Patric Kearns who are regular performers in Stevenage were among the
audience. Her husband, Director of Photography Graham Fowler and
several family members accompanied Vicki for the evening. |

The Rhys Daniels Trust |
|
a |
|
On October 8th
Vicki attended the 2005 Butterfly Ball in aid of The Rhys Daniels
Trust. The Daniel’s family story came to the knowledge of the nation
when Rhys became the first child in the world to receive a bone marrow
transplant in a bid to cure him of the traumatic and terminal illness
Late-infantile Batten’s Disease. Sadly, the bid failed and both Rhys
and his sister Charley died of the disease. Parents Barry and Carmen
founded the Rhys Daniel’s Trust to provide comfort and support for
other families in a similar situation. Each year, the Trust holds a
number of Charity Balls and fund raising events of which Vicki has
been a regular supporter for several years. |

saw this as the perfect opportunity to join forces to raise money for
this years chosen charity of the Caron |
